Over the last couple of weeks the Reception classes have been learning about Diwali, Bonfire night and Remembrance. They have had a lot of creative activities to take part in, such as making clay Diva’s, drawing Mendhi patterns, fire work pictures and making remembrance poppies using apples. We’ve had lots of fun and learnt a lot about different celebrations.
The children at Heber have worked together to create a Remembrance Day display. Each class contributed their own wreath and some of the poems written by Year 6 have been displayed alongside them. Foundation Stage Immersion Day So far this half term we have been learning about all our favourite stories and nursery rhymes. For our immersion day the children came dressed as their favourite book character. Everyone looked fantastic! It has been a very busy start of the year in the Reception classes! The children have been learning about doubling in their maths sessions and focused on ways to solve doubling problems. In Literacy they have been developing their fine motor skills and forming a range of letters. In out Artist topic the children have been learning about abstract art and created their own pieces of work, using a range of methods.
Over the past 11 weeks, children in Year 4 and 5 have been working every Friday afternoon on the Heber News Radio Show. Last week we finished the programme and it is now live on the website. We’re looking forward to welcoming you and your children to Heber in September. Each year the Parents and Friends of Heber organise a picnic for new reception children and parents/carers. It’s a lovely gentle introduction to new classmates (for the parents & carers too!) before the summer holidays. This year its on Thursday 16th July at Peckham Rye Park (in the Arboretum) from 3.30pm.
